You can call the title character of Dan For Mayor a lot of things, but don’t call him dumb.
“He’s not dumb. Not at all,” insists actor Fred Ewanuick, who plays the unlikely mayor of Wessex in the comedy series —which begins its second season June 5th on CTV.
Notable achievements
-Played Hank Yarbo for six seasons on Corner Gas, which was nominated for an International Emmy Award for Best Comedy Show and won a Gemini Award for Best Ensemble Cast in 2007
Currently
-Stars as Dan in the Gemini Award-nominated CTV series, Dan for Mayor; Season two premieres on June 5
Former Edmontonian Paul Mather is off in Ontario producing, creating and writing Dan For Mayor.
The second season premiers June 5 on CTV at 5:30 p.m. Dan for Mayor has shifted from the serial, soap-opera format to an episode-based comedy now that Dan Phillips (Fred Ewanuick) landed the mayor gig he’s completely unprepared for.
“He’s like the NDP candidate from Quebec (Ruth Ellen Brosseau),” Mather said.
Mather’s favourite episode this season is where the historical interpreters at Fort Wessex decide to strike. Beyond the costuming and writing, schadenfreude explains Mather’s fondness for the episode.

“Alright, I’m the mayor and I wanna start doing stuff. Lots of stuff. Just as soon as I get back from the bar.”
